The Second Fight in the Ring

Hector Lombard won BKFC's cruiserweight title over Joe Riggs. Then Lorenzo Hunt entered during the post-fight interview, and Riggs helped pull the new champion away.

Hector Lombard hit Lorenzo Hunt twice in the head inside the BKFC 18 ring. Hunt had entered as Lombard began his post-fight interview, approaching the new champion before the exchange at the microphone could establish its own order. Lombard answered with two punches.

The title had been decided moments earlier. Lombard defeated Joe Riggs in the fourth round by doctor stoppage/TKO in the BKFC cruiserweight title fight. BKFC's event page lists the bout on the June 26, 2021, card in Hollywood, Florida. The official result made Lombard the cruiserweight champion; the ring did not remain governed by that result for long.

Hunt's entry came immediately after the fight. The approach and the response are documented, but Hunt's motive is not. What followed was not another scored round or a formal continuation of the contest. It was a collision at the point where the winner was supposed to speak, with Lombard's title newly secured and the post-fight space already claimed by another confrontation.

Security rushed in to separate the fighters. Joe Riggs also pulled Lombard away. Riggs was the man Lombard had just defeated for the belt, yet he became part of the immediate response to the disturbance. The official ending belonged to the champion. The physical separation belonged, in part, to the challenger.

That was the residue of BKFC 18's title fight: Lombard had the belt, Hunt had entered the ring, and two punches had turned the interview into a second contest. Riggs pulled Lombard away before the ring could hold both the victory and what came after it.
